Bill's trip report (12/11)
We hiked on the trail this weekend. Super trip. We drove over from Conyers on Friday night and camped at Turnipseed Hunter Camp. We only had several boys so we hiked from the Cheaha State Park to McDill overlook. We camped there overnight. This is a super overlook and is about 1/4 mile off the trail. On the way to the overlook there is a crashed single engine airplane. It has been there since I was a scout. Have not been able to find out any details about the airplane but there are still pieces of the fuselage and wings. The view from the overlook is super. We camped about 75 yards from the overlook. There is a campsite there. It was very very windy but worth the trip. In the morning we woke up in the clouds. We hiked out on an old road that is near the intersection of McDill Point. It goes on the other side of the mountain and connects back with the trail. We were able to find water by hiking past the McDill intersecton about 1/2 mile down the trail. We had to follow the creek bed about 1/2 mile to find water. We have been able to find water there in the past.
Will keep in touch. The area is one of my favorite to hike. We did a 50 miler there several years ago and had a great time.
