Cave Creek / Pinhoti Trails
2 day hike (hiked 12/20/01 - 12/21/01)
Access Pinhoti Trail from Cheaha Park Trailhead. Nice parking area with occasional ranger patrol.
Day 1. (6 miles) Start along Cave Creek Trail south to Odum Trail. It is a fairly easy hike, easy to follow, with an easy to moderate climb up Odum Trail to Odum Point. Parts are not very well marked, and where there is a campsite, there might be two or three trails leading away. The wrong trails end within a couple of hundred yards.
Day 2. (6 miles) A sign at Odum Point indicates that it is 6 miles to the Cheaha Park Trailhead. The trail is a fairly easy hike, but parts are not particularly well marked. An old forest road crosses at one point and it is easy to think that it is the trail. It intersects with the Pinhoti later on and from there the trail is better marked.
Odum Trail
2 day hike (hiked 01/12-13/02)
Access Pinhoti Trail from Cheaha Park Trailhead. Nice parking area with occasional ranger patrol. This is a straight-through hike. The High falls trailhead is the other end.
There are a number of established campsites along the way. The views can be spectacular along the entire trip. This is a fairly easy hike and good for beginners.Day 1. (6miles) Take either the Cave Creek or the Pinhoti (they run parallel about a halfmile or less apart) south to Odum Trail. It is a fairly easy hike, easy to follow, with an easy to moderate climb up to Odum Point along the Cave Creek trail or earlier along the Pinhoti. Parts are not very well marked, and where there is a campsite, there might be two or three trails leading away. The wrong trails end within a couple of hundred yards. At Odum Point is a fairly reliable water source. It’s hidden in some brush so look for it.
Day 2. (4 miles) A sign at Odum Point indicates that it is 4 miles down the Odum Trail to
the High Falls trailhead. The trail is a fairly easy hike, but again parts are not particularly well marked. A few parts have short steep climbs and descents over large rocks that require some care. There are also a few steep stairs built along the way. Along the last two miles or so of the Odum Trail the trail follows a creek with lots of waterfalls.
