Mountain Top Trail (No Blazes, ~3 Miles)
This is a neat unmarked but definitely follow-able trail that I found. It is easy and offers a really neat feel of the ridge of a mountain, with low trees, grassy areas, vines, boulders, and some view points. There aren't many people there as it isn't an official trail. Starting from the Peavine Gravel Road take the red bike trail about a hundred yards. Then to the south you will see the ridge of the mountain about 50 yards away and a short distance above you. Bushwhack up to the top. Here you will see a well-defined trail that follows the ridge all the way to where the red bike trail crosses the ridge and heads down the other side to the North Trailhead. This is also very near the place where the white trail and yellow/white connector join up with the red trail, so there are a lot of options for loops. The trail goes up and down a little bit, I would classify it as easy to moderate based mostly on the fact that it is a little rougher and harder to follow than the developed trails. However, you can't get lost since you are following the ridge top and paralleling the red bike trail. There is no danger. There are a few places where you have nice views of the south ridge of the mountain and Peavine Falls basin. The green trail crosses and follows this trail for a short distance. If you do this trail in August you will find lots of wild grapes in the section north of where the green trail goes back down the mountain. They are great in the hot weather. I give this trail a four star rating.
