Welcome to Hiking Alabama.  A site that I (Lee) have created over the last few years.  I've created this site to share my love of the wilderness and backpacking trails of Alabama.  Since moving to Alabama in 1996 I've been amazed at the diversity and beauty of this state.  Alabama isn't usually thought of as a backpacking destination, we have mountains, but nothing like Colorado, we have swamps and beaches, but nothing like Florida, we have canyons, but they don't compare to Utah.  But what makes Alabama special is not simply it's diversity but the fact that the diversity is hidden in new growth long leaf pine forests and in dells tucked away from the eye.  You can be alone on the trail in Alabama like you can't in most other states.  In publishing this site I take a risk of exposing these wildernesses.  My hope is that this page will promote community among the people who use the trail rather than making the trail the equivalent of I20.  Your participation in this site will help achieve this goal of a community who cares about the forest.

Please help make this site interactive by providing your feedback and updates on the trails and signing the guestbook.  The guestbook and discussion board can be found under "Trail Talk."
