Trail Guides

Now it is time to Hike!  These trail guides cover all of the developed backpacking areas in the state of Alabama. Since I'm interested in backpacking I don't review trails under 5 miles long unless they are part of a larger trail system. Most of the trails I review I have hiked two or more times and I try to write the reviews immediately.

Bartram Trail Review. [Rating: Easy, 2 1/2 Stars] An 8 1/2 mile trail over the gently rolling hills of the Tuskegee National Forest.

Conecuh Trail Review. [Rating: Easy-Moderate, 4 Stars] This trail roams through cypress trees, Spanish moss, by flowing streams, wet lands, and ponds. The Conecuh provides a great review of southern Alabama.

Oak Mountain Trail Guide. A guide to the 52 miles of trails in Oak Mountain State Park. A diverse set of trails that provide a nice introduction to what Alabama forests have to offer.

Alabama Pinhoti Trail Guide. A guide to the 111 mile Pinhoti Trail which offers lots of solitude in the mountains of eastern Alabama. Includes 27 miles of side trails.

Georgia Pinhoti Trail Guide. A guide to the Pinhoti Trail in Georgia.  The trail, when finished, will connect the Alabama Pinhoti to the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain.

Sipsey Wilderness Trail Guide. A guide to the Alabama's most popular backpacking spot, the guide should be completed in March of 2000.

A Week in Alabama. Seventy miles, seven days, and three trails. Here is my suggestion for seeing the best that Alabama has to offer in a week of backpacking. These trails are selected for their beauty and diversity.

Other Trip Reports. Trip reports from the backpacking I have done outside Alabama, so far just includes 3 days in the Cohutta Wilderness.

This site is brought to you by the Alabama Hiking Trail Society, dedicated to completing the Eastern Continental Trail and increasing hiking opportunities in Alabama.  We hope you find the information useful and will consider supporting the AHTS.  Before you leave please visit the AHTS web page to learn more about us and the work we do.

Please help make this site interactive by providing your feedback and updates on the trails and signing the guestbook.  The guestbook and discussion board can be found under "Trail Talk."
