Maps
I am including here maps for many, but not yet all, of the trails that I cover. The maps are drawn to different scales and by different standards. The maps that are mine were drawn using MapTech software that includes scanned USGS 1:24,000 and 1:100,000 maps along with elevation data and other digital information. These maps will take a long time to download, most of the maps are over 1 megabyte. Use these maps with caution, they are not perfect. I have not formatted these maps for optimal printing. Some of them will take up less than a screen and be no problem, others will be larger and might be a problem. Best results will be obtained with a color printer. More updates will be included with time.

I've decided to provide trail maps for those who can't wait to order them. These are LARGE files, over 1 meg each, and will take a long time to down. The maps were created in MapTech, and are scanned USGS topo maps with the Pinhoti Trail traced on in black. All other trails are in red. I haven't added any other markers to them, that might be done in the future. I have used GPS tracks of the trail and the forest service topo maps to create them. The scale is 100,000:1 if seen or printed at 100%, so they should not be seen as maps to go cross country with, but they should give you a decent view of the forest and be good enough to find the trail head and hike by. The maps are in tif format, you should be able to view them with the standard windows viewer, your web browser, etc.
Map 1. ATA Section from Flag Pole Mountain (not entirely complete yet) to the 272/78 trailhead, and the very first part of section 1.
Map 2. From the 272/78 trailhead including Section 1. Passes Terapin Watershed (not to be confused with the station), and includes most of the Dugger Mountain Wilderness.
Map 3. The last few miles of section 1, Rabbit Town Rd, and most of section 2.
Map 4. The end of section 2, Coleman Trailhead, and Section 3 including the Laural Shelter. Sweetwater lake is not indicated on the map, it must be an old map from before the lake was created. The map includes Pine Glen at the bottom.
Map 5. Section 4, from just below Pine Glen past the FR500 trailhead and into Section 5. Many of the forest service roads are not indicated on this map, including the one below Pine Glen and the one after the Lower Shoal Shelter.
Map 6. All of section 5 and the start of section 6. Includes the crossing of I 20 of of US 431.
Map 7. Section 6. From US 431 to CO Rd 49 (the waterfalls are in this area), and then continuing to the crossing of Hillabee Creek and the CCC road, beginning the ascent of Blue Mountain. The CCC Rd is not indicated on this map.
Map 8. Section 6 and the beginning of Section 7. Climbs Blue Mountain, includes the Blue Mountain Shelter, crosses the Talladega Scenic Drive below Cheaha Park and continues past my favorite campsite. Other trails are indicated in red.
Map 9. Section 7 and the beginning of Section 8. Includes the Chinnabee intersection, and Adam's Gap.
Map 10. Section 8, includes Clairmont Springs, Chandler Springs, and the end of the trail.
None of these maps are copyrighted except those that I've drawn which are copyrighted by me (MapTech automatically puts a copyright notice on the bottom of their maps but they are not allowed to copyright USGS maps and all the added data is mine). You are free to use them so long as you don't publish them anywhere else without my permission.
