Trekking in Colorado

August 2000

Okay I'm finally doing the trip reports for my trek in Colorado the beginning of last month. This trip really involves different trips in three wilderness and an exploration of a National Grassland mostly by car. I'm also going to include a gear summary, so if that is all you are interested in you can skip to it now. I flew to CO on the 8th and came back the 21st. The main purpose in going out there was to meet my brother who spent the summer climbing in the Rockies, northwest, and Canada (lucky him). He picked me up at the airport and we did some climbs that night in Boulder Canyon and then a few more near Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). Then on the afternoon of the 9th we headed through the park and finally made it to the North Supply Trail Head about 4:00 that evening. After that trip Kid had to leave to head back to Chicago to teach, I went on to do some other treks.

This two weeks was really a great time for me, I've been working very hard on my dissertation and publications for the last summer and had very little time away from the office. Backpacking usually is a time where I relax and get my mental energy and enthusiasm back. I don't think I ever needed it more than on this trip. Hopefully you get some of that from this report.
