Lake Shore Trail Loop

The Lake Shore Trail is a short loop around Open Pond. The Forest Service thinks it is 1.5 miles long, I think it is more like two miles. Traveling counter-clockwise around the loop starting at the Conecuh Trail trailhead which is at the pavilion in the day use area of Open Pond. The trail crosses the entrance road to Open Pond and then goes up the hill on the north side of the pond. There are occasional views of the pond from this section of the trail. As the trail rounds the west side of the pond it comes down and crosses by the entrance to the campground. It then continues over short cut grass along the south side of the pond and the campground. There is a fishing pier to walk out on. The trail then rounds around the last camp site, beside a more secluded and swampy section of the pond, up through the woods and back to the trail head. This trail is a nice little walk around the pond, and would be a neat night hike (well marked with reflective tape) if you were staying in or near the campground. It is easy and gets a two to three star rating.
